A place where engineers are trusted to lead.
At Nerv, technical decisions are made by the people closest to the problem. We don't have layers of management second-guessing engineers on the ground. If you own a domain, you own the decisions in it.
We invest in certification, send engineers to vendor training, and treat continuous learning as a business requirement — not a perk to be negotiated.
Our clients are enterprises with real consequences attached to uptime. The work is meaningful, the problems are hard, and the team you'll work with is senior.
Certification budget
Annual budget for vendor certifications, training, and technical conferences — no approvals required below the threshold.
Small, senior teams
You'll work alongside experienced engineers — not be the most senior person in a room full of juniors left to figure it out.
Flexible working
Hybrid model for non-site roles — three days in the Sandton office, two remote. Outcome-based, not presence-based.
Market-linked salaries
Benchmarked against ICT industry rates annually. No "loyalty discount" — we pay what the market pays, without you having to ask.
Medical aid contribution
Company contributes 50% of Discovery Health or Momentum medical aid premiums from day one of employment.
Real career progression
Defined technical career ladders from junior through principal engineer — with transparent criteria, not manager discretion.
Six things that are true about working at Nerv.
Not aspirational statements. Things colleagues will actually tell you after a month here.
We document everything
Runbooks, architecture decisions, incident post-mortems — if it isn't written down, it doesn't exist. Knowledge stays in the team, not in someone's head.
Feedback is direct
We say what we think in the room, not in a channel afterwards. Disagreement is expected and welcomed — once a decision is made, we commit to it.
On-call is fair
Structured rotation, compensated properly, and with runbooks that actually help. You won't spend 2am trying to figure out a system you've never seen before.
We own our mistakes
Blame-free post-mortems are not a slogan here. Incidents are learning opportunities, and the person who finds the bug gets credit, not heat.
Diversity makes us better
Our team reflects South Africa. Different backgrounds bring different approaches to hard problems — we actively build for that, not around it.
We leave on time
Sustainable pace is a technical decision, not a policy. Burning people out degrades reliability. We protect capacity and plan properly.
